The osprey eggs which were removed from the nest yesterday for examination are fascinating . Not only are they different shapes- one is distinctively elongated , whereas the other is broader and rounder- but their colouration is also different with a lot darker brown speckles on the longer one.  It is not uncommon on osprey eggs for their to be a large variations in amounts of depths of colour, but the shape difference is unusual in our experience.

As we mentioned briefly yesterday, both eggs are intact with no holes, cracks or obvious flaws which pretty much rules out crow damage as a cause of hatching failure.

Our birds have both been back to the nest today and the female spent a long time tidying it this morning then spent most of the afternoon perched on flat top tree. Interestingly the male brought her a fish today on the nest so it is still a focus for the birds.

Lastly, we have had a camera left behind in the Crannog hide last weekend, which is yet to be claimed. if you have slot a camera after visiting us, please contact Police Scotland on phone 101 as it has been handed to their lost property department.
