Whilst we still wait for our osprey eggs to hatch, we thought we’d let you know about the great events that are coming up in the next few weeks at our visitor centre.  Whilst we are best known for our ospreys, the reserve is home to a huge diversity of species and we try to help people appreciate and enjoy all our local wildlife- big and small. After all, without the plants, we’ve have no insects, none of those and we’d have no fish, and without them , no ospreys!  To highlight the small and wonderful wee beasties that we all rely on one way or another, we’ve themed our next big weekend of events to celebrate bugs, bees and beasties!

On Saturday 7th and Sunday the 8th June, we have our Busy Bees and Bugs family fun days, with lots of fun activities for all the family. Discover more of their fascinating world using our new microscope and with fun quizzes, craft and trails. Free with standard visitor centre entry, 11am-4pm both days.

On Saturday the 7th the ranger will be leading a BIG BUG HUNT! We will be finding bugs of all shapes and sizes and checking them out up close and personal. We will also be making small bug hotels to take home . Charge: £adults, £2 members or concession, £1 kids. 1-3pm, booking recommended. Suitable for all ages.

On Sunday the 8th, 2-3pm, we are pleased to host a guest talk by John Taylor on the Importance of Honeybees. This fascinating talk by a local beekeeper will reveal the vital role honeybees play in our everyday lives. Free with Visitor centre standard admission but booking recommended.

Come along and join us for any of these events- for more information or booking , call 01350727337.
