Osprey Tracking Update – 22nd March 2016

With our female LF15 and a number of other birds now back at their nests in the UK osprey migration is definitely in full swing. However our young tracked bird, FR3, seems quite happy to stay put for the time being. We wouldn’t expect FR3 to return northwards for at least another year, quite possibly two (most ospreys wait until reaching breeding age before undertaking their first spring migration).

As you can see from the Google Earth image below, FR3 has maintained the pattern of behaviour which has become very familiar to us over the last few months, travelling short distances of now more than 1km or so along the bolong (creek) to the north of Bulok and roosting at night in the surround mangrove forest.
