There is a great feeling of excited anticipation running through the Visitor Centre and Hides at Loch of the Lowes today.

Our female, LF15, is blissfully unaware of how carefully her every action is being interpreted. By our calculations she will be laying an egg any day now … any minute. Mind you, Nature being Nature, this could continue for many days. It is not an exact science!

Last year, the first egg was laid exactly two weeks after their re-union. This year, today marks the fortnight point, so ….

In other news, yesterday the male , LM12, brought a very different sort of catch to the nest – toads! The unfortunate toads must have been scooped (together) from the water’s edge during a rather intimate moment. While the male was eating one, the female grabbed the second as it hopped around the nest. The toads were soon devoured and the female flew off to a nearby tree where she was later seen to be regurgitating something. Apparently toad was not to her liking.

Easter holiday visitors have been enjoying the live action and it’s lovely to see the centre and hides full of enthusiastic people. After the ospreys’ recent meal, frogs and toads are featuring again at Lowes with ‘Happy Hopping Family Fun Days’ on tomorrow and Sunday.

We look forward to seeing you!
