Today is a bit of a sad day for us here at Loch of the Lowes as we say goodbye to some of the core team that have helped protect and monitor our ospreys for the last three months during their breeding season.  We have been lucky enough to have three full time residential volunteers this year who have contributed a full time commitment to the nest protection watches, and worked alongside the nearly 70 local people who help fill the 24hr a day rota.

Daniel, Victoria and Yvonne have each brought amazing dedication , patience , good humour and great company to the sometimes thankless task of early mornings and late nights in the hides. In addition they have helped me in some many jobs around the five local reserves with surveying, repairing, paperwork, school visits and much more.

To these three we can only say a heartfelt THANKYOU as they leave us to take up new roles in conservation at the end of their standard  three month posting, and they all have very bright futures ahead of them we are sure.

Don’t worry though, this being the extraordinary year it is, we will be continuing to watch and protect the birds in their never-ending incubation, 24hrs a day, for the foreseeable future. The next intake of new volunteers will be getting  a taste of osprey watch too!
