Varied terrain and tree species plus ancient ruins.

Starting at the Allean Forest car park, follow the way marked walk through the forest passing a partly restored eighteenth century black house or ‘clachan’ and further on, the remains of an eighth century `ring fort` in a commanding position overlooking Loch Tummel. Keep an eye out for red squirrels, roe deer and pine marten and for those interested in birds - siskin, crossbill and gold crest can be seen in the mix of conifers and broadleaf trees near Loch Tummel. The forest highlights how to use the terrain for trees and the different species grown there includes: Douglas fir, Scots Pine, spruces and larch.
