In the footsteps of the Victorian Artist, Sir John Millais

The English painter Sir John Everett Millais stayed in the area in the 1870s and found the landscape inspirational. Today, as you pass through the Hermitage, the wild ‘tree garden’ of the 2nd Duke of Atholl and onwards to the Rumbling Bridge over the River Braan, you will understand why.

From here, you'll cross the A822 road up into open moorland and past the once busy hamlet of Tomgarrow which is now just a deserted ruin, home only to the wildlife that thrive in Tomgarrow Wood and the nearby Ladywell Plantation.
